As you may have discovered, many ASWA chapters across the country sponsor a scholarship aimed at young women actively engaged in the pursuit of a degree in the financial and accounting fields. The San Antonio chapter is proud to join its sister chapters in making funds available to such aspiring scholars.

Dear ASWA Scholarship Applicant, Your interest in The American Society of Women Accountants (ASWA) scholarship could prove to be a very rewarding experience. Should you be selected as the ASWA San Antonio Chapter’s 2010 scholarship recipient, additional scholarship opportunities are available at the national level of ASWA as well. Our local ASWA Chapter is eligible to nominate one candidate and forward their application to the ASWA National Scholarship Committee for further consideration. We are proud to share that two of our past candidates have been awarded sizeable national scholarships to add the scholarship proceeds received from us! These valuable national scholarships are made possible by the American Society of Women Accountants Educational Foundation, which seeks to use its funds wisely for the good of the accounting profession. Applications will be accepted from residents who are enrolled in an accredited educational institution inside our Chapter’s geographical area. Please bear in mind that you need not be a member of ASWA to be eligible for 2-year college or undergraduate scholarships. This year we are offering scholarships to students in these categories: I. 2-Year College Scholarships Purpose: For those attending Community, State or 2-Year Colleges towards an accounting or finance degree. Criteria: Scholarship awards are presented to community college students entering their second year of an Associates Degree Program who have completed 15 semester hours or the equivalent before the 2010 summer term. Candidates must have a minimum cumulative college grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent), and be majoring in accounting or finance. Scholarship candidates will be reviewed on leadership, character, communication skills, scholastic average and financial need. Please Note: Undergraduate scholarships are selected and awarded in May,2010 for the upcoming 2010-2011 academic school year. II. Undergraduate Scholarships Those applying for an undergraduate scholarship must meet the following criteria: 1. Shall be either a part-time or full-time student pursuing a bachelor’s degree in accounting, or an equivalent designated post-baccalaureate certificate of accounting. 2. Shall have completed a minimum of 60 semester hours, or 90 quarter hours, with a declared major in accounting or finance. Candidates must have a minimum cumulative college grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (or the equivalent). 3. Shall be attending an accredited college, university, or professional school of accounting. Please Note: Undergraduate scholarships are selected and awarded in May, 2010 for the upcoming 2010-2011 academic school year. If you follow the link at the top of this page, you will find the file attachment containing the scholarship application, which you may photocopy as needed. Please allow ample time to complete the entire application process, as all required documents must accompany your application. Submitted scholarship packages MUST include one complete set (the original documents) of the following: • Completed scholarship application • Official college transcript • Previous financial aid college transcript/information (if applicable) • Letters of reference Note: College transcripts and accounting faculty references are not required for those applying for ASWA Member Certification Scholarships. Once eligibility is determined, selections will be based on demonstrated strengths in the following areas: • Leadership • Character • Communication Skills • Grade Point Average • Financial need Additionally, the applicant’s personal circumstances will be taken into consideration. Tentatively, scholarship award presentations are slated to take place at our Chapter’s regular meeting in June. Should the ASWA local Chapter scholarship recipient be chosen to receive a National scholarship as well, please note that those proceeds will become available during the month of July. Most importantly, your submitted scholarship application package MUST be postmarked by March 1,2010 as the scholarship committee will only consider packages sent by this deadline. Facsimile transmissions cannot be accepted. ASWA Member Scholarships Purpose: To support the exam fees of any one of the following certifications: CPA, CFP, CFE, CIA, CMA or CVA. Criteria: Scholarship awards are presented to ASWA members only. Becker Review Purpose: To provide registration for a Becker CPA Review. Criteria: Scholarship awards are presented to ASWA members only. ****These applications are available through National and should be submitted to the National Foundation.**** In closing, we would like to take this opportunity to wish you great success in your educational endeavors and future career achievements.
